Recommended Foods: generally, these are soft, bland, room temperature/cool foods
- Soup (not hot)
- Scrambled eggs
- Well cooked pasta (with alfredo sauce or mac and cheese)
- Cooled, well-cooked oatmeal
- Fish
- Yogurt/cottage cheese
- Ensure or other protein drinks
- Mashed potatoes
- Cooked vegetables
- Soft, non-acidic fruit such as bananas
- Applesauce (if not too acidic)
- Jello
- Pudding
- Ice cream
Foods to Avoid: hot (temperature), hard, crunchy, tough, chewy, sour, spicy, grainy
- Tomato based foods
- Citrus based fruits and juices
- Popcorn
- Pretzels
- Chips and hard tacos
- Nuts
- Steak, or tough meats
- French bread, or other crusty breads
Generally, you can slowly return to a normal diet about 2 weeks after surgery, but you can ask about any dietary restrictions at your next post-operative appointment.
