Advanced Technology

When you seek care at our office, you are assured that our doctors and team members utilize the latest in technology to enhance the quality and comfort of your periodontal care. Read below to learn more about our technological advancements!

Perioscopy

Dental microsurgery utilizes microscopes that are similar to the ones used in endoscopy surgeries—enabling us to perform precise periodontal surgery. You just can’t fulfill that level of care with the naked eye! In addition to allowing precise, close-up work, the perioscope allows us to see inside of periodontal pockets to analyze the root surface of teeth for disease-causing bacterial accumulations- oftentimes without the need for a scalpel.

Electric Handpieces

Many dentists use air-driven “hand-pieces” (the dental term for “drills”), and while this is acceptable for many procedures, these tools all have a degree of deviation and do not rotate perfectly smoothly. In order to achieve the highest level of precision in periodontal procedures, we use electric handpieces. This results in extraordinarily accurate and conservative surgery that will bring you greater comfort during your recovery. With a more precise tool, there is also less vibration and noise during the procedure.

Digital X-Rays

Our doctors adhere to a number of guidelines when it comes to selecting which radiographs to take and when to take them. Radiographs allow us to see everything we cannot see with our own eyes; they enable us to detect cavities in between your teeth, determine bone level, and analyze the health of your bone. We can also examine the roots and nerves of teeth, diagnose lesions such as cysts or tumors, and assess damage when trauma occurs.

Dental radiographs are invaluable aids in diagnosing, treating, and maintaining dental health. Compared to traditional radiographs, digital radiographs also require very little exposure time—reducing the period of radiation exposure by about 50%. Digital imaging can also help us retrieve valuable diagnostic information and store patient images or easily transfer them to other specialists or insurance companies.

Intraoral Camera

Our office utilizes intraoral camera technology that helps enhance your understanding of your diagnosis. An intraoral camera allows our practice to capture clear, precise images of your mouth, teeth, and gums in order to accurately make a diagnosis. With crisp, defined, enlarged images, we see details that may be missed by standard mirror examinations. This can mean faster diagnosis with less chair time for you!

Intraoral cameras also enable our practice to save your images in our office computer to provide a permanent record of treatments. These images can be printed for you, other specialists, and your lab or insurance companies.

3D Imaging

Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) is a state-of-the-art technology that creates precise 3D scans and detailed 2D pan images to help our team diagnose potential issues more accurately and provide treatment with unprecedented confidence.

Our new 3D system enables us to perform a wider range of diagnoses and treatments in our office, helping to reduce multiple visits and travel time to imaging centers. This scanner allows us to choose the field of view, or scanning area, that best suits your specific treatment needs. This helps to limit your radiation exposure because we are focusing specifically on your area of concern.

This system provides unmatched visualization of anatomical detail in treatment planning and helps us better explain the particulars of your case and address any questions you might have. Our doctors can use this innovative technology to quickly and easily share 3D images of the area of concern with your referring doctor—allowing us to collaborate on your care, streamline your experience, and deliver a positive treatment outcome.

Piezosurgery

The piezosurgery system uses ultrasound waves to cut bone without damaging soft tissue. Whereas traditional methods of bone-cutting, such as drills and burs, result in some tissue and bone loss regardless of the dentist’s precision, piezosurgery technology eliminates this risk. This means we are able to perform procedures such as tooth extractions, crown lengthening, ridge expansion, periodontal therapy, and implant site preparation with increased accuracy and minimal discomfort.

The benefits of piezosurgery include accuracy, comfort, and healing time. Hard tissue is surrounded by soft tissue that includes arteries, nerves, and sinus membranes. In traditional surgery, there is a great risk of damaging this delicate tissue, but with piezosurgery, the system is so accurate and specific to the surgery site that this risk is minimized.
